Fremont Street also has a distinguished history
Historic Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas has fascinated and attracted people from around the world for many years. Flanked on either side by neon signs blinking their golds, greens and reds, Fremont Street is a unique and stunning sight.
During the past year, visitors have had even more reasons to enjoy and be awed by the downtown district. City officials and casino owners have become partners in a $70 million project called the Fremont Street Experience. The aim is to breathe new life into downtown, to compete with the ever expanding and ever more glitzy Strip, only a few miles away.
The most dramatic addition has been the Space Frame, a 90 foot high steel framed arch that towers above Fremont Street, stretching from Main to Fourth Streets, a distance of about five football fields in length. Studded with 2 million light bulbs, 180 strobe lights and 208 speakers, all computer driven, the Space Frame comes to life every night with animated displays that dance across the arched canopy.
